Comments from pupils

A word of advice to pupils of any age at St. Augustine's who may be reading this blog.

Several people have commented with words to the effect that the Headmistress is a bully, and they are concerned that if they identify themselves then Mrs Gumley Mason will take it out on their children at the school.

I have no way of knowing whether that is a reasonable fear or not. I don't know Mrs Gumley Mason and have never met her. But you do know her. If this is a genuine and reasonable fear, then I recommend that you don't comment here unless your parents have checked the comment over first. Better still, whatever you were thinking of saying here, tell your parents instead and suggest that they write the comment. They are likely to be much more careful to word it so that identifying information isn't included by accident.

  1. On 21st March there's a comment about 'one of the teachers shagging a sixth-former in the new science block'. Who could that be? No prizes for guessing, we all suspected it anyway.

  2. This is wholly inappropriate, and should be investigated immediately. Teachers have to adhere to a code of conduct, is Mrs Gumley-Mason aware of such goings on. If she were more approachable maybe others could relay their thoughts regarding the above comment. Once again this women has no idea of the goings on in her precious school! Maybe as parents we should question the suitability of the school regarding our girls welfare. My husband and I are now seriously looking for alternative schools. We feel very let down by the headmistress, she is forthright, a bully and very unpleasant when asked direct questions on school policies and questioning teaching standards in certain subject areas. She forgets that our fees pay her wages. I wonder how many other parents are thinking along the same lines and questioning the integrity of the school.

  3. Me on all fronts 11.43.

But choice is limited. We can begin to force change this Friday. As someone said - there is a pool of available talent in the school, as I am sure we can all agree. Unfortunately the head is welded to the helm - and the Governors and Trustees mistakenly think everything is fine. It is not. Their complacency is oceanic.

If the room fails to speak collectively on Friday I will be confirming a place elsewhere next week. A great deal more inconvenient, but I am impressed with the people and the engaging nature of the lead team. ICT is superb, and safeguarding follows the London Safeguarding Board guidelines which have been brought to our attention by this blog.

  4. Well, there is a strong suggestion that Mrs G-M reads this blog, 11:43. So she may know about these allegations now.

  5. I know for a fact that Mrs G-M reads this blog. Lets' hear what Anonymous 04.47 wants to say, why are you withholding it?

  6. 04.47 is obviously none other than Mrs G M.

  7. Mrs G M you are you that shallow, I think the time has come for the Charity Commission to be informed of your failings to the girls at St.A's. Additionally, the accounts should be fully investigated, as rumors are abound that they do not add up!

  8. Maybe the Tax office should be informed about the irregularities in the accounts. Is that why the accounts for 2009 haven't be signed off? This normally happens when the signee doesn't agree with the figures.

  9. Where do you hear these rumors? As I have stated in response to your various other postings, it looks to me as though the accounts each year are received in late April or May of the following year. If you check your calendar, you will see that it is not yet late April or early May 2011, and therefore the 2010 documents would not yet have been posted.

  10. Hello Mr and Mrs Gumley Mason, rumours start because you are less than forthcoming with the truth, here's a chance to redeem yourself. How much did the recent Court Case cost? We the parents paid for it indirectly therefore should be kept in the picture of how our hard earned cash is wasted.

  11. If you look on the Charitable Commission Website you will notice that in 2010 no accounts have been submitted and quite rightly pointed out by 14:37 they would have been made available in April/May 2010, so where are they? Who is holding them back and for what reason, they are a year late. Please explain as to why they have not yet been published.
Rumors normally start when things aren't as they should be, and in this instance it looks pretty suspicious!

  12. 2010 docs would have been posted late April/May 2011. Which is yet to come.

  13. I am talking with regard to 2009 account that have not been submitted in 2010, if you look on the Charity Commission website number 1097781 you can see quite clearly they are missing.
Please explain Mrs Gumley-Mason for what reason they have not been submitted.

  14. Why have they not been posted on the Charitable Commission Website, just checked and you are quite right they are missing. Have you an explanation Mrs Gumley Mason, this is highly irregular.

  15. It says right on the Charity Commission website they were received May 17 2010 for accounts through July 2009. I suspect the accounts through July 2010 will appear in the next month. What do you not understand about that?

what is going to be posted this year, as every year they are posted accounts in July so in 2010 no documents have been submitted. July 2011 documents will be submittedr, to conclude one year is missing.

Charities have to submit their accounts to the Charity COmmission within 10 months of the year end for their financial year. For St. Augustine's, the financial year ends in July, so they have until May 2011 to submit their accounts for the financial year ending in July 2010.

If you look here you will see that both the accounts and the annual return for the year to July 2009 were submitted on 17 May 2010.

When the accounts are submitted, we will then be able to see whether they have been properly signed off by the accountants and auditors. At this time, I know of no reason to believe that they haven't.
