    1. Hi I also have a son at the school and have concerns as you have. But please let the legal system take its course. I can assure you that right now all the agencies are looking into this and the lead agency will leave no stone unturned. So right now is not the time to make comments regards to any individual as to blame. Rummer and ill tough out suggestions with out facts are not helpful in any way to move this forward Thank you.,

    2. Out side agencies are looking into this- They have done nothing so far. Problems of a serious nature were brought to the attention of ofsted the last report and they did nothing. Perhaps if they were doing their job properly recent events would have been picked up much earlier.

    1. Don't worry too much about Cleugh as this his last year at the school.

In September he will be replaced by the headmaster of Stonyhurst (not without its own paedophile problems).

  3. How long have they known? Conspicuously absent from the "school news" section of their website.

  4. It is really sad. My daughter and nephew both attended St Benedict's and suffered no problems. The teacher were in the main very supportive and I feel very sorry that again they will be effected by the actions of another. Having met Peter Allott through school events over the years and socially on a few occasions through his friendship with ex-pupils, I can honestly say that many people have been extremely shocked and upset by the latest allegations. Some simply can't forgive the crime, some can't believe he would do such things. There are divided loyalties within those who knew him. I can help thinking of what a waste of life.. he will be tarnished forever, guilty or not. His career will be over. He has caused further embarrassment to a school which was just recovering from previous abuse charges and he has betrayed all those who knew him. What a sad and pathetic man.

    1. What pompous, 'poor-me' garbage your post is. "Some people can't forgive the crime." The crime of what? Tarnishing the 'reputation of your precious school' - AGAIN? The charges against Allot include MAKING category A porn. Your pompous assed alumni are not the victims in this - the children in those films are the victims. So don't blather on about how hard it is for "some of us" to forgive Allot - it is not your place to 'forgive' him.

    2. So your concerns are that 'the school is embarrassed' and 'Allot's career is over' - and what a terrible waste this is for poor Mr Allot. No mention of the victims - the chldren in those videos. I can not and do not believe you are a parent.

    3. I think your comments are unduly harsh against the poster. What he is accused of doing is 100% abhorrent and any right minded person would agree. However, this does also impact on all those who knew and have had dealings with him. Imagine how you would feel if a close friend or work colleague of yours was charged with the same crime? How am I supposed to explain all this to my 12 year old? This is not about what happened in the past and I don't think it is attractive that some posters appear to be using this to pursue a personal vendetta against the school.

    4. It is noteworthy that neither the original post nor the first 2 comments mention the true victims either. It is all about the school....

    5. The same self absorbed narcissistic poster missing the point - yet again - by making out like HE is the victim in this? REALLY?

"Imagine how you would feel if a close friend or work colleague of yours was charged with the same crime?"

Work colleague, hey? What a big Clue.

"How am I supposed to explain all this to my 12 year old?"

If you actually have a 12 year old (which I doubt), then under the circumstances, I suggest you alter your perspective to one of gratitude and thank your lucky stars you're not in the position of having to 'explain' why his teacher raped him. Imagine THAT. Then realise: I don't have to imagine it - I have BEEN in that horrific position. And funnily enough, my concern wasn't for MYSELF, it was for the CHILD. Same poster you are, for sure. Get someone else to write these for you - your completely self absorbed angle isn't normal, it sticks out like a sore thumb and gives you away EVERY TIME.

"This is not about what happened in the past"

Yes it is actually. It is about the fact that St Benedict's has a long history of employing paedophiles - and is STILL employing paedophiles.

What is is NOT about is about your concern with the reputation of the school - NOR is it about Allott's colleagues feeling a little bit embarrassed to be associated with him since he got caught.

IT IS ABOUT THE VICTIMS. And it is about the SAFETY OF THE PUPILS. And it is about the fact that a pedophile was put in charge of St Benedict's -YET AGAIN - which is hardly 'safe'.

Now stop responding to me. I've had enough of your bloated narcissism.

  5. My son is still at the school and I can confirm that this has come as a huge shock to everybody. In my opinion the school has handled it extremely well, keeping parents informed at every stage. This is very different to what happened in the past (which was truly dreadful) and heartbreaking for the staff and pupils.

    1. Allot was arrested 3 days ago. The story was all over the press immediately. That is the only difference. The school wasn't able to keep it quiet this time.

    2. How do you know it's not your son in those images?

      Pathetic

  6. Allott was first employed by the school in 2004. Was the prolific child abusing pervert David Pearce still headmaster at that point? Hoping you can answer that question Jonathan.

I also find the content and motivation of the two main comments directly above this to be extremely suspect (10/12, at 11.31am and 12.57pm, respectively).

The poster (I believe both posts are by one person, given the repeated flavour of both posts) seems only to be concerned about the reputation of the school, whilst clapping the school on the back for the way it is handling this. Both posts are completely unconcerned about the victims (and there are DIRECT (and very damaged) victims, given the charges against Allott include MAKING Category A porn. Both posts scream of an exercise in damage limitation.

Yes, at this stage (until proven in court) these crimes are technically 'alleged'. However, due to the fact that Allott's personal iphone was riddled with hardcore (i.e. penetrative / physically damaging) child porn videos and images (as well as the hard drive in his school office), I'd say Allott being found guilty as charged is a foregone conclusion that's sensible to make. Ditto the fact that Allott is in prison awaiting trial - as opposed to being bailed. None of this leaves much room (none) for doubt. It will be a fast trial.

And on the subject of 'alleged', the following point was in one of the suspect posts above:

"He has caused further embarrassment to a school which was just recovering from previous abuse charges"

That remark is erroneous, misleading and hides and minimises the true facts: The previous grim history of child abuse at St Benedict's relates not merely to 'charges', but to proven heinous sex crimes, committed against CHILDREN who were pupils at St Benedict's, by EIGHT perpetrators who were employed to teach at St Benedict's - most of whom have subsequently been penalised with hefty prison sentences, suspended prison sentences, etc - and one of whom (the vilest of them all) fled whilst on bail and has been hunted by interpol ever since. Do not minimise that - it won't work.

Cleugh's demand in the letter to parents: "I would ask that everyone respect the privacy of Mr Allott and avoid speculating about the police inquiry" is impertinent and gobsmackingly hypocritical. Allott has not 'respected' the privacy of the children - nor 'respected' them in any other way. Quite the opposite. So excuse me for not extending such a courtesy to Allott - he does not deserve it, nor does Cleugh have the right to make such a demand.

Further, Cleugh's statements that "Allott will be suspended, told to avoid any contact with pupils and ordered to vacate school premises" is superfluous BS - Allott has been detained since his arrest and will remain in prison, so what is this nonsense about 'ordering him to vacate the school premises' - and the rest. Nice try on the whitewash but some of us do have a clue Cleugh. The school hasn't 'handled' this in any way shape or form - as usual it is concerned only with it's 'reputation'.

There were eight prolific pedophiles already CAUGHT at St B's - but we were told it was 'safe' now. But lo, in the midst of those creeps being trialed and sentenced in court, a ninth prolific pedophile rose to a high status position as Deputy Head at the school - a pedophile who was 'brought in to the fold' during pedophile Pearce's reign. So clearly it was not 'safe' at all, despite us being told it was. How many more pedophiles are still employed there? I'm sure we will be told it's 'safe' yet again - until the next time. And the next time. And the next time.

    1. Pearce ceased to be junior school headteacher at the end of 1992. He was made bursar then, but I'm pretty sure he had no officiial role at the school by the time Allott arrived.

The legal definition of "making" indecent images of children includes downloading them from the internet. So we at this point have no means of knowing who the indecent images are images of. From what the police have said so far, there is no evidence of any involvemenbt of the school and its pupils.

  7. The awful happenings of the past were very much under the watch of the Governance of the school. However, the school cannot be held responsible for the actions of this individual. The material that was discovered was NOT on any school device (in contrary to the Daily Mail article) but on two personal devices of which the school has no authority over. The school has a very robust IT system of which makes the downloading of inappropriate images virtually impossible. A prayer for the victims of this horrible crime most appropriate right now.

  8. Leaving aside for one moment the sickening abuse of these poor children and the lifetime of misery that they may now face, this latest turn of events is almost certainly an unfortunate coincidence for the school and one which would have been diffcult to anticipate.

I have no doubt that since the Carlile report the school has worked hard to ensure it provides an ultra safe environment.

What still irritates me is that despite a great number of pupils during my tenure as a pupil (1972-79) knowing of the predatory intent (successfully executed we now know) of a number of "teachers" (lay and monastic) that there were hundreds of staff on the roster during that time that punched their ticket daily and chose to ignore what was happening.

The only other explanation being that they suffered collective, intermittent and selective deafness and blindness.

Weirdly, apparently, this has since been compounded by amnesia.

Someone should write a medical paper or inform the Guinness Book of Records.

I for one would like to look a few of those people in the eye once more.

Having avoids Soper despite his advance, sadly and by disgusting coincidence some 35 years later my own child was subject to low level abuse at his primary school and despite the best efforts of law enforcement, the guy is still out there probably making some other child desperately unhappy even as I write this.

In the wee small hours lurch my thoughts lurch from helplessness to lighting torches and sharpening pitchforks.

  9. Allott only worked in the Senior School during his time, initially as a non qualified teacher and on his return in 2012 as a deputy head of the senior School. He never officially worked in the Junior School. Pearce by 2004 had no association with the school at all, having been restricted to monastic and parish duties. Other than that they might have known of each other and may well have meet outside of school, there is no other connection with the school at this time.
